I feel so honored to be chosen to be a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher at Cuyahoga Valley National Park! From a child, I love being outside. This opportunity to share my love of nature with children is incredible.
My first week as a T-R-T was all inclusive training. We had first aid and cpr training, defensive driving training, junior ranger program training, and general park orientation. Did you know that park rangers are called interpreters? I also took online classes in Foundations of Interpretation, History of the National Park System (NPS), NPS and the federal government, Organization of the NPS, and certification in Informal Visitor Contacts. After a day of reading and online classes, I was ready to hike! Even with all of the training, I came home excited to start a new day and learn new things. Part of our training was to be familiar with the trails and the park. I have hiked Brandywine Falls, Ritchie Ledges and overlook, Oak Hill Trail, Rim Trail, Plateau Trail, Indigo Lake, and the Beaver Marsh. Between cool morning fog, to blistering heat to severe thunderstorms, our June weather was extreme. Just take a look at the amount of water at Brandywine Falls. Mother Nature at her finest!
