Miss Natalie Harr
An Antarctic Blog
Dear Students, Community Members, Educators, and Global Science Enthusiasts...

The countdown is on...  In exactly 30 days, I will embark on a trip of a lifetime.  I will be traveling to Palmer Station, Antarctica as a member of Dr. Lee's 2012 Antarctic Research Team.  I am proud to represent the first elementary teacher ever invited on the team.   Our five member team will depart in late December and travel 8, 000 miles by both air and ship to reach the southernmost continent in the world.  While there, we will conduct research on the largest land animal in Antarctica...any guesses?   I will also be leading the team's educational outreach program, which will target our youngest and most impressionable learners.  I want to thank all my fellow teachers, administrators, and community members for their support of the Crestwood-Antarctica Connection.

Hold on tight...let the adventure begin!

Nature Detective Challenge:  Locate all seven continents.  Find the southernmost continent in the world.  Would you want to visit there?  Why or why not?

Hi Miss Harr,
We hope you have fun. Maybe you will see some insects. We hope you will stay warm. We hope you see penquins and seals. We hope you have a safe trip. Will you let us know when you see animals? How long will you be there? How will you get there?
Happy trails,

GREAT start to your role in the expedition. You're following in the great tradition of Pat Betteley. I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming next as you STEP onto the continent. Remember to record the small, seemingly mundane details of everyday life at the Palmer Station and environs. Ranger Ed

Hi Miss Harr,
We have been reading, watching videos and learning all about Antarctica. It is really exciting to have one of our very own teachers down at the bottom of the earth.

Your boat ride sounded scary with the 22 foot waves. I'll bet you are glad to be on land finally.

How are the penguins doing down there???? Have you seen any wildlife yet.......like the wingless flies???

Have a great adventure...........Mrs. Broman's third grade class
